IMPORTANT: Announcements of the opening of shelters will be made to the public over the radio and also local television stations. Of the shelters listed below, some may not open immediately. Some shelters are certified only for Hurricanes, others are certified only for Tsunamis. Therefore, you must listen to the radio for the specific shelter openings.
Some shelters are certified only for Hurricanes, others are certified only for Tsunamis, and some are certified for both Hurricanes and Tsunamis. Please refer to the legend for each shelter type.
WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU TO THE SHELTER: It is essential that you bring any medications for yourself including dosage amounts. Bring ample water for drinking as well as food to last at least 3 days. The Plan To Be Ready booklet posted on page 1 of this website gives detailed information about preparing for emergencies. Fill it out now and bring it with you to the shelter with your emergency kit.
